2010 ENERGY GLOBE Award – SESAC a winner!

Since its inception in 1999, the Energy Globe Award has become an important instrument to honour companies, organisations and individuals for their work to create a better environment. Awarded at the national and international level, it commends initiatives promoting sustainability, energy efficiency and renewable energy use.

The SESAC project was awarded 1st place in the National ENERGY GLOBE Overall Winner France 2009. The international Energy Globe award ceremony took place in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, on 3 June 2010.

Delft declaration

On 24 May the Mayors of Delft (Netherlands), Växjö (Sweden), Grenoble (France), Miskolc (Hungary) and Vastseliina (Estonia) signed a declaration to strongly urge the European Union to take action on climate issues. The declaration is intended as a policy recommendation for the European Union to use taxation to encourage renewable energy (see enclosure).

The cities want the European Union to encourage the use of renewable sources of energy and discourage the use of fossil fuels. They want to achieve this by imposing a high tax on all fossil fuels, stopping direct and indirect subsidies on all types of fossil fuels and reducing or even abolishing tax on renewable sources of energy. The funds generated this way should be invested in sustainable energy measures on a local level.

From 21 to 24 May the city of Delft hosted a conference for administrators and energy experts from all over Europe. The climate statement was drafted during this visit.
