Energy efficent dwellings at Välle Broar, Limnologen
The politicians of the City of Växjö decided back in 1996 that Växjö shall become a fossil fuel free city. Between 1993 and 2006 the emissions of carbon dioxide from Växjö have decreased by 30 % down to a level of 3.2 tonnes per capita and year. This level is far below the global average. The goal is that the emissions per capita shall be reduced by 50 % until 2010 and by 70 % until 2025, compared to 1993.
The energy efficient dwellings project is part of the comprehensive SESAC project in Växjö which started in 2005.
SESAC is part of the Concerto initiative under the 6th Frame Work Programme and is co-funded by the European Commission.
The main objective of this project is to build a massive wood multi-storey building which fulfils the national requirements concerning energy consumption. When Midroc became a partner, the goal was set higher and new individual measurements of utilities were implemented. Therefore, each inhabitant will be able to manage his/her own energy costs and reduce his/her energy costs.
The project is currently under construction and the first part (2 buildings, ie 67 apartments) was completed in May 2008. The picture below shows that in order to minimise the dampness of the wooden construction during rainy weather, a water proof tent is installed above the construction. . Therefore, the initial energy consumption will be reduced during the “drying-out-process”. Measurements of utilities are in progress and the construction work of the second part is estimated to be completed before April/May 2009.
