Polygeneration from biological waste in Växjö, sewage treatment plant Sundet
Polygeneration from biological waste at Sundet
In line with the Fossil Fuel Free program, and the over all Concerto objective of decreased energy intensity and increased system efficiency, this demonstration project will integrate the inhabitant’s energy-rich biological waste, such as human faeces and food waste, into the area’s energy infrastructure.
This will be done by rebuilding and extending an existing anaerobic digestion plant. The demonstration will show how the energy utilization of this material can be optimised through increased methane gas production and poly-generation combined with a rational use of energy.
The otherwise energy consuming plant will be self-sufficient in heating and produce 60 percentage of its own electricity demand. In addition will the extracted biogas be refined into more valuable energy, in shape of vehicle fuel to be used by technical service vehicles in the Concerto area.
